Spurgeon applies “partakers of the divine nature” to daily life as a call to live out a new God‑given nature in holiness, visible separation from corruption, and loving conduct toward others.[1][2][3][4]

## 1. New birth and new nature

– He insists that partaking “is not, of course, to become God,” but to be “made in a yet diviner sense in the image of the Most High” by the renewal of the Holy Spirit.[5][1]
– The believer is “as certainly partakers of the divine nature by the new birth as we were partakers of the human nature by the old birth,” so daily life must reflect this new, holy pedigree.[4]

## 2. Union with Christ and continual dependence

– Spurgeon stresses union: “One with Jesus—so much so that the branch is not more one with the vine than we are a part of the Lord.”[1]
– Practically, this means constant derivation of life from Christ; like a sunbeam cut off from the sun, a Christian cut off from Christ “dies,” so daily communion (Word, prayer, obedience) is essential.[6][1]

## 3. Visible holiness and escape from corruption

– He argues that those who partake of the divine nature “will display this high and holy relationship in their relationships with others” and in their “daily walk and conversation.”[5][1]
– To have escaped “the corruption that is in the world through lust” means ruthlessly refusing fleshly indulgence: “Vanish for ever all thought of indulging the flesh if you would live in the power of your risen Lord.”[2]

## 4. Promises as daily resources for sanctification

– Spurgeon treats God’s “exceeding great and precious promises” as an “inexhaustible mine of wealth,” urging believers to “tread” them like grapes so that their “juice will flow” into daily experience.[2]
– In practice, the Christian mines, meditates on, and trusts these promises to fuel obedience, kill lust, and strengthen the new nature in everyday decisions.[2]

## 5. Ethical fruit: love and separation

– Because believers share in God’s nature, Spurgeon says they are “descendants of the King of kings” and should live as such: loving one another and maintaining a “separated life of true holiness” in the midst of a corrupt world.[3][4]
– Daily Christian living, then, is the consistent outworking of this high birthright—showing divine likeness in humility, purity, love, and nonconformity to worldly desires.[3][4][1]
